2017 Nonprofit Leadership Institute

Pepperdine University's Nonprofit Leadership Collaborative and Cal Lutheran's Center for Nonprofit Leadership invite you to attend the 9th Annual Nonprofit Leadership Institute. The Institute is the dream of Regan Schaffer, Dena Jenson and Doug Green who have coordinated this event since its inception. It reflects a true partnership and collaboration between practitioners, educators, community members, students and friends.

This is a highly innovative workshop for nonprofit board members, staff, and leaders and an opportunity to build relationships with the next generation of nonprofit leaders. The intergenerational audience and the intimate setting are ideal for facilitating authentic connection, growth and mentorship.

The day will include a workshop facilitated by Geoff Green followed by break out sessions on Overhead/Real Cost, Corporate Structuring and Next Generation Leadership. The day will allow time for attendees to network with current and future nonprofit leaders, renew in a beautiful setting and be both inspired and informed by our speakers. Come join us!

Your registration includes breakfast and lunch overlooking the Pacific at Pepperdine's Malibu campus.

Our speaker is Geoff Green, chief executive officer of the Santa Barbara City College Foundation.

A native of the San Francisco Bay area, Geoff came to Santa Barbara in 1990 as a UCSB student where he began work in community organizing on issues of racial equity, access to education, environmental health, and LGBTQ equality. Geoff’s professional work at UCSB included positions with the Office of Residential Life, Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, and the Associated Students where he served as President in 1993-94.

In 1994, Geoff was elected to a four-year term on the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District Board of Directors where he served until pursuing a career as a park ranger/naturalist in Yosemite National Park. Upon returning to Santa Barbara in 1997, Geoff began work with the Fund for Santa Barbara where he served in a variety of roles for nearly 18 years including executive director from 2003 to 2015.

Geoff’s other community work includes more than 10 years of public affairs radio programming on KCSB, and as a campaign field organizer for Measure A96 and as co-chair of Santa Barbara County’s “No on Prop 22” campaign in 2000. Geoff was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara North in 2006, served on the Leadership Council that drafted Santa Barbara County’s 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness in 2006-2007, was appointed as a commissioner of the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara in September 2008, and served as president of the board of the Santa Barbara Ventura Counties Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2012 and as president of the Foundation Roundtable of Santa Barbara County from 2014 to 2015.

Geoff has served on numerous boards and has advised hundreds of nonprofit organizations, foundations, public agencies, and labor organizations in the areas of organizational development, fundraising, event-planning, coalition-building, board development, strategic planning, lobbying and advocacy, effective use of media, public speaking, executive searches, conference planning, and meeting facilitation.

What's the refund policy?

Refunds will be given up to 48 hours before the event (8:00 am on Wednesday, February 15th). Please email your request for a refund if you cannot attend the Institute.
